The student curated festival includes the Soforenko Foundation Film/Speaker Series on the Jewish Experience

BRISTOL, R.I. 鈥 Flickers鈥 Rhode Island International Film Festival and Roger Williams University present the 12th Annual Roving Eye International Film Festival from April 17 to April 23. This year鈥檚 festival features more than 80 international films and documentaries, including numerous world and United States premieres, as well as workshops with visiting filmmakers and student film showcases. The event will conclude with the Spring 2017 Soforenko Foundation Film/Speaker Series On The Jewish Experience.

All films will be free and open to the public. Festival screenings will be held in Global Heritage Hall, Room G01 and the Mary Tefft White Cultural Center in the University Library. International films will be screened with English subtitles.

Roger Williams University film studies students curate the Roving Eye International Film Festival, with the guidance of Adjunct Professor of Communication and Film George T. Marshall, who is the film studies and executive director of Flickers鈥 Rhode Island International Film Festival. This year, 16 students reviewed more than 500 films submitted to Flickers鈥 from around the world to produce the international film festival.

This year鈥檚 festival includes Academy Award-winning and nominated films and will feature panel discussions and workshops with filmmakers and industry leaders, such as 鈥淓lementary鈥 regular Robert Capron and Eric Latek, an award-winning writer, director and cinematographer. One of this year鈥檚 special presentations will be the highly anticipated screening of the new documentary by Steven Feinberg, executive director of the RI Film & Television Office, that chronicles the creation of the Pell Educational Grants.

The festival鈥檚 annual Soforenko Foundation Film/Speaker Series on The Jewish Experience will run April 18, 20 and 23. The sidebar program on The Jewish experience will feature short films, documentary, media and guest speakers. This year鈥檚 programming explores representations of the Jewish experience in Israel, across the globe and the Holocaust through 15 premiere films. For more information on this series the go to .
